Known as the longest running hot-air balloon event in Texas, the 36th annual Great Texas Balloon Race (GTBR) and Festival lifts off July 26 to 28, at the East Texas Regional Airport, in Longview. Running in conjunction with the GTBR this year, the Balloon Federation of America’s Hot Air Competition Division will hold the
United States National Championship race over the Longview area.
Ten special shape balloons add excitement to the evening Special Shapes Spectacular, which allows families to enjoy these whimsical balloons up close. Other activities include arts and crafts, a carnival midway, festival food and drink and a Kids Land area with a bungee run, joust, climbing wall, giant slide and bounce house.
Cody Canada & the Departed and Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers will perform live concerts on July 26 and 27. Nightly balloon glows entertain the crowd with an awesome display of color and excitement, providing the chance to watch how balloons are inflated and operated.
Balloons take off at 6:30 a.m. Tickets are $15. Children 12 and under admitted free and everyone gets free admission the morning of July 28.
