The Spring Plant Sale at Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary will feature a huge selection of native milkweed plants. Hours for the public are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 16, and 1 to 5 p.m., April 17. Special, members-only hours are from 4 to 7 p.m., April 15.
Species available for purchase include Asclepias brachystephana, Asclepias incarnata, Asclepias texana, Asclepias oenotheroi- des, Asclepias asperula capricornu, Asclepias arenaria and Asclepias asperula asperula. By purchasing and planting milkweed to help feed monarch butterfly caterpillars, North Texans will be able to help the recovery of this species and support the nonprofit Heard. This sale will also feature native flowering plants that provide nectar for the adult butterflies.
A representative from Monarch Watch will be available to answer questions about monarchs. Volunteers from the Native Plant Society of Texas Collin County Chapter and the Blackland Prairie Master Naturalists will be available to help select plants.
