The Susan G. Komen 23rd annual North Texas Plano Race for the Cure will be held on June 8, in Plano. The event celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those that have lost their battle with the disease, by raising funds and awareness of breast cancer through a series of run/walks. The goal is to raise $300,000 at this year’s event.
Karen Borta, CBS 11 News Anchor and her mother, Imelda Laurel, a breast cancer survivor, are the Honorary Race Chairs for the 2013 event.
Race options are a competitive 5K run, casual 5K run/walk or a one-mile family fun run/walk. The 5K competitive run is USAT&F certified and will have award-eligible chip timing available. Race-day registration begins at 6 a.m., with the competitive 5K start at 8 a.m., followed by the casual 5K at 8:10 a.m. and the family fun run/walk at 8:35 a.m. Additional activities include Kids for the Cure activity area and 50-yard dash, health fair and sponsor expo. The Survivor Celebration and awards ceremony begins at 9:45 a.m.
