The 25th annual Shelby County What-A- Melon Festival will be held in downtown Center, Texas, July 10 through 12. A full slate of activities includes carnival rides, vendors and live entertainment under the big tent, including some great gospel music. Girls up to 15 and boys up to 5 years will compete in their favorite watermelon or summer attire.
One crowd favorite, the What-A-Melon Pet Show, will be held July 11. The third annual What-A-Melon 5K Run/Walk on July 12 benefits local Boy Scout organizations. The festival’s Watermelon Speed Eating Contest, also held on July 12, follows the Seed Spitting Contest. That’s when the weighing in of Shelby County’s biggest watermelons begins. What-A-Melon Festival entry buttons are $4 each for all three days.
